Compekun English version is now officially available.

What is Half-Round Scoring?

"Half-round scoring" determines rankings using only the score of the first 9 holes out of a full 18-hole round. This method is used in so-called "half tournaments," and Compekun offers two formats for it: "Double Peoria (Front 9)" and "Scratch (Front 9)."

When is this useful?

  • When 18 holes can't be completed, such as due to rain: If play is interrupted or postponed by bad weather and the full 18 holes can't be finished as planned, you can still finalize rankings and results using the scores from the first 9 holes, as long as those are complete. This serves as a fallback when an 18-hole tournament gets cut short.
  • When you want results right after play: Because scoring is based only on the first 9 holes, rankings can be finalized without waiting for the back 9 to be played. This is convenient for organizers who want to hand out awards or prizes immediately after play.

How to set it up

In the "Tournament Format" section when creating or editing a tournament, choose one of the following:

  • Double Peoria (Front 9): Applies the same hidden-hole handicap method as regular Double Peoria, but to the first 9 holes' scores only.
  • Scratch (Front 9): Uses no handicap; rankings are based solely on the gross score of the first 9 holes.

For the detailed calculation methods, see Tournament Formats, and for how this differs from regular Double Peoria, see What is Double Peoria?.

What exactly counts as the "first 9 holes"?

In tournaments where multiple groups start from different courses (e.g., separate OUT/IN starts), the "first 9 holes" refers to whichever course each group played first. It doesn't necessarily mean the OUT course, so please keep this in mind.
